Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde on Monday urged social and political actors to take advantage of the current African nation context to continue and expand the process of women”s empowerment.
Comprehensive and integrated efforts must be made at the regional and community levels to achieve this goal throughout the country, she said during a consultative forum on gender equality held in Addis Ababa under the auspices of civil society organizations.
She also considered that empowering women firmly will depend on the conscious and gradual transformation of socio-cultural precepts and practices, involving students, community and religious leaders, academicians, activists, and all Ethiopians.
The event, held in the UN Economic Commission for Africa, was attended by more than 200 representatives of societies working to make Ethiopia a more inclusive country and empower women, according to a statement from the President’s Office.
