In commemorating the 16th Annual Aret Adams’ Foundation, four Geology students of University of Ibadan (UI) have been awarded scholarship following their sterling academic performances.
The students; Olayinka Yinka Ayodeji, Akwaowoh Idongesit Michael, Adeniran Margaret Adenike and Jaiyeoba Oluwabunmi Kikelomo were subjected to rigorous aptitude test by the Foundation Board after being selected from their Department before being adjudged the best.
The Chairman, Board of Trustee, Engineer Charles Osezua in his statement disclosed that the scholarship was given to fuel the culture of excellence which Aret Adam represented, urging the recipients to continue to aspire towards excellence in all their undertakings.
Aret Adam was the first Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) who retired in 1990. The Foundation was established in honour of the late Chief Godwin Aret Adams, in recognition of his outstanding contributions towards the growth of the nation’s oil and gas industry and the nation’s economy in general The foundation has however continued to promote and build educational capacity and policy formulation.
Earlier this year, February, the foundation held its 16th Annual Aret Adams Memorial Lecture Series, on the theme “Emerging Middle-Level Producers in Oil & Gas Industry: Challenges and Opportunities”.
According to the Chairman, He said, “Aret believed greatly in affordable education, good governance and enduring job creation. These are his legacies which necessitated the establishment of this Foundation “
The Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka in his brief remarks, thanked the Foundation members for the gesture, adding that UI was synonymous with the best in every enviable value, hence its thoroughness both in moral and academic tradition.
